T7 Automotive has been formed from a unique partnership between two like-minded petrolheads with a desire to offer a unique vehicle maintenance service for those who truly care for their cars and vans.

Our Workshop is led by Master Technician Carl Ross, who has over 35 years’ experience in vehicle maintenance and repair. Carl works in partnership with Caterham and Motorsports specialist, Callum McDougall who you’ll find heading up our sister business, Turn 7 Limited.

Throughout his career Carl has been at the forefront of the evolution of motor cars and has strong experience with the more mainstream brands we see on our daily commute he is now partnering in Turn 7 Automotive following 8 years’ running a local MOT centre, and has also recently completed a four-year qualification in electric-vehicle servicing and repair. Other household names he boasts on his CV include Ford Motor Company, Reg Vardy Plc and for those more local you may remember Massingberd Harrogate.

Having started his automotive career back in the day of YTS schemes, Carl did his City & Guilds in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair during a time when cars didn’t have the luxury of driver aids we see on today’s modern motor cars, so he is equally comfortable dealing with older vehicles, which do not have the luxury of on board diagnostics, and specialist vehicles such as Caterham Sevens. Carl has worked with Callum McDougall at Turn 7 from 2021 and in that time has come to know and appreciate these cars and understand the needs of their owners.

A keen motorsport enthusiast for some years, Carl’s passion is rallying, having competed in a Peugeot 205 GTI from the early 1990s until 2004 when sadly rallying had to make way for his three young children. Rallying engenders a can do culture and to be successful you have to be able to think fast to diagnose a problem and find a fix to keep the car on the road, which is what he’s really come to love driving and working on Caterhams, where every car is slightly different.

They’re more of a driver’s car” says Carl, “you don’t have the nice things like traction control and ABS to help you deal with them, it’s really going back to basics which allows you to be more at one with the car”.

At the end of 2022, the decision was made to team up with Turn 7 to build a service business based on Carl’s decades of experience dealing with every day vehicles and with the ability to provide a dedicated service for Caterham owners that was previously lacking in the North of England. In the process this experience is extended to look after the more exacting requirements of the owners of sports and classic cars where jobs require a much deeper level of skill and understanding that that provided by the average independent garage.

“This business is all about providing a service to owners, we say things as they are, we only promise what we can do but then we have the understanding, enthusiasm and experience to do things others can’t.”
